AI Resume Builder in Claude and ChatGPT via MCP

Create a resume with AI in a normal conversation with Claude or ChatGPT, and get a real document with a template, layout and PDF instead of a wall of text in the chat.

Asking an AI to write your resume takes a minute. The trouble starts afterwards: the text from the chat has to go somewhere, be formatted, dropped into a template, and checked so nothing shifts when you export a PDF. We removed that step. Claude or ChatGPT connects to AI Resume Master and builds your resume directly in your account, with a template, proper sections and a ready PDF.

Why a resume written in a chat is not a resume yet

The usual ChatGPT resume workflow goes like this: you describe your experience, get a nicely written text, and then do everything else by hand.

  • Formatting. A chat gives you text, not a document. You copy it into Word or Google Docs and sort it into sections yourself.
  • Template. To look clean and stay readable for applicant tracking systems, a resume needs a sensible structure: one column, standard section names, normal fonts.
  • Edits. Every change means copy, paste and fix the spacing again.
  • Multiple versions. Different jobs need different emphasis, and juggling several documents gets messy fast.

If you want better prompts for a plain chat, read How to use ChatGPT to write your resume. This article is about removing the manual part entirely.

What MCP is, in plain English

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to services. Without it, Claude or ChatGPT can only write text. With it, they can take actions in a service on your behalf: create a resume, change a section, pick a template, give you a link to the result.

AI Resume Master has its own MCP server. You connect it once, and from then on the assistant works with your account directly: whatever you tell it in the conversation lands in your resume on the site.

What it looks like in practice

  1. You write: "Build me a resume for an accountant. I've spent 6 years in a distribution company."
  2. The assistant asks questions one at a time: employers, responsibilities, results in numbers, tools you use (Excel, QuickBooks, SAP, Tally), education.
  3. The resume appears in your account, already split into Work Experience, Education and Skills.
  4. You ask for changes in words: "make the summary shorter", "add my IFRS course", "switch to a two-column template", and the changes show up right away.
  5. You get a link to view the resume on the site and, when you need it, a PDF.

Already have an old resume? Paste it into the chat. The assistant sorts the text into sections and creates a draft you can keep refining.

Tailoring your resume to a specific job

The most useful scenario is tailoring. Paste the job ad into the chat and ask the assistant to adapt your resume: it compares the requirements with your background, highlights the relevant experience and adds the keywords you are missing. One firm rule: it must not invent experience you do not have. It only rephrases and shifts the emphasis within what you have actually done.

After tailoring, run the result through our ATS checker. It shows whether a system will find the keywords from the job posting and whether the format gets in the way.

Which assistant you can use

  • claude.ai (web). Settings -> Connectors -> Add custom connector, paste the server URL and sign in with your AI Resume Master account. No key needed.
  • Claude desktop app and Claude Code. Create a personal key in your account and use the ready-made command or config.
  • ChatGPT. The same URL works through custom connectors in Developer mode (Settings -> Connectors -> Advanced -> Developer mode). Whether that mode is available on your plan is up to OpenAI.

Step-by-step setup with copy-paste commands is on the Claude MCP connection guide. The server URL is the same for every client: https://airesumemaster.com/mcp.

What is free and what is paid

  • Free: one resume built through the assistant with unlimited edits, plus viewing it on the site via a link.
  • Subscription or one-time payment: PDF download, exactly as on the website. A second and any further resume through the assistant requires a subscription.

The integration does not make anything more expensive: the terms are the same as in the regular resume builder. Current prices are on the Pricing page.

Is your data safe

  • The assistant only sees and edits resumes in your own account.
  • The personal key is shown once, and you can revoke it in your account at any time. Access stops immediately.
  • In the web versions (claude.ai, ChatGPT) you sign in through our authorization screen and never see a key at all.
  • The server explicitly tells the assistant that job-posting text is data to analyse, not instructions, so any "commands" hidden inside a job ad should be ignored.

Tips for a stronger AI-built resume

  • Give numbers. "Cut month-end close from 7 to 4 days" beats "Responsible for month-end close".
  • Answer follow-up questions honestly. If the assistant asks about results you did not achieve, say so. Invented experience is easy to spot in an interview.
  • Reread your summary. Recruiters read the first few lines of a resume most carefully, so ask for several versions and pick the one that sounds like you.
  • Keep a separate version for each type of role instead of one "universal" resume.
  • Before you apply, check your draft against the most common resume mistakes.

Key takeaways

  • A chat writes good text but does not produce a document. Through MCP, the assistant builds your resume directly in the resume builder.
  • It works with claude.ai, the Claude desktop app, Claude Code and ChatGPT in Developer mode.
  • One resume through the assistant is free; PDF download works the same way as on the site.
  • The best use case is tailoring your resume to a specific job and then checking it in the ATS checker.
