Housekeeper Resume 2026 - rooms per shift, inspection scores and trust free

Housekeeping is one of the few jobs where quality is formally measured every single day, and almost no housekeeper resume uses that. Rooms per shift, inspection pass rate, room-cleanliness survey scores, lost-and-found record, chemical and equipment competence: these are recorded by the property, they are yours, and they turn the vaguest claim in hiring - attention to detail - into a number a manager can check. Hotel and private residence work also pull in different directions. One is about speed against a standard and a credit rota; the other is about discretion, trust with keys and belongings, and a household that never has to ask twice. Below is a full sample that works for both, written for US hiring.

Housekeeper resume sample

The structure an executive housekeeper or a private employer can read in thirty seconds: volume, quality scores, what you are trusted with, and the chemicals and equipment you handle safely.

Rooms per shift, or the size of the home

Credits or rooms cleaned per shift, split between stayovers and checkouts, is the volume measure the whole department runs on. For private work, the equivalent is square footage, number of bedrooms and how often you are there.

Quality as a score, not an adjective

Inspection pass rate, room cleanliness survey scores, quality audit results, rework rate. This is how you prove attention to detail instead of claiming it, and it is what nobody else on the shortlist will have.

Trust made explicit

Master key control, lost and found handling, working in occupied rooms and around personal belongings, alarm codes in a private home. This role runs on trust, so the resume should say where yours has been tested.

ATS friendly

Hotels, hospital systems, universities and cleaning contractors screen through tracking software. Single column, standard headings, no photo, no tables, and the terms from the posting - room attendant, deep clean, OSHA, turndown.

Housekeeper profile summary

Three or four lines: years in housekeeping, the setting, your volume per shift, your inspection or survey score, and what you are trusted with. An executive housekeeper is filling a rota and protecting a quality score, so give them both numbers immediately.

For private household work the same paragraph changes shape: size of the residence, how many days a week, whether you worked with the family present, what you handled beyond cleaning - laundry and ironing, linens, errands, pets, deliveries, contractors - and how long you stayed. Tenure is the strongest signal in private service, because it means a family trusted you for years.

WeakHardworking and reliable housekeeper with attention to detail. Experienced in cleaning rooms, changing linens and making sure guests are satisfied. Able to work independently or as part of a team.
StrongRoom Attendant with 5 years at full-service hotels, Phoenix AZ. Clean 15-16 credits a shift mixing checkouts and stayovers, and hold a 97% first-time inspection pass rate over two years. Tip
Ask your supervisor for your inspection pass rate before you leave a job. It is recorded, it is yours, and it is the single most convincing line you can put on a housekeeping resume.
Skills

Housekeeper skills for a resume

Volume, standards, chemicals and equipment, and the judgement that keeps guests and employers safe. Every line should be checkable on a room inspection or a trial day.

Hard skills

  • Guest room cleaning to standard: checkout and stayover sequence, bathroom sanitising, dusting, vacuuming, high-touch point disinfection
  • Bed making and linen: hospital corners, triple sheeting, duvet and protector changes, linen counts and par stock
  • Deep cleaning rotations: mattress rotation, curtain and upholstery care, grout, vents, behind and under furniture
  • Chemical safety: reading labels and Safety Data Sheets, correct dilution, contact and dwell times, never mixing products, OSHA Hazard Communication
  • Equipment: commercial vacuums, carpet extractors, floor buffers, steamers, pressure washers where used
  • Surface knowledge: hardwood, marble and natural stone, stainless steel, leather and delicate upholstery, and what damages each
  • Laundry: sorting, stain treatment, washing and drying by fabric, ironing and pressing, folding and closet standards
  • Room status and systems: reporting status to the front desk, PMS or housekeeping apps, maintenance tickets, out-of-order rooms
  • Inventory and carts: amenity and linen par levels, cart setup, stock control, chemical storage and labelling
  • Lost and found, key control and security procedures: logging items, master key accountability, entering occupied rooms correctly

Soft skills

  • Noticing the thing the guest would have noticed - the smear, the hair, the crooked lamp
  • Working at pace without cutting the steps that show up in an inspection
  • Discretion around guest and family belongings, conversations and routines
  • Honesty with valuables, cash and lost property, every time
  • Reliability on a rota that other people's shifts depend on
  • Reporting damage or maintenance faults instead of hiding them
  • Politeness with a guest who is in the room and wants to talk
  • Physical stamina across a full shift of bending, lifting and pushing a cart
  • Following a family's or a property's preferences exactly, and remembering them
  • Working alone all day with nobody checking, to the same standard
Experience

How to write housekeeping experience

Formula: setting and size plus volume plus quality score plus responsibility. 'Cleaned rooms and changed linens' describes the task; the reader needs to know how many, how well, and what else you were trusted with.

Quantify even where nobody handed you a report. Rooms or credits per shift, square footage of the residence, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, days per week, how many staff you worked alongside or trained, how long you stayed. Length of service in private households is worth as much as any metric.

Weak- Cleaned guest rooms, changed bed linens, restocked supplies, and reported any maintenance issues to the supervisor.
Strong- Cleaned 15-16 credits a shift at a 300-room full-service hotel, mixing checkouts and stayovers, with a 97% first-time inspection pass rate over two years; trained 7 new room attendants on the checkout sequence and covered the deep clean rotation on low-occupancy days.
What to include
Setting and size - rooms or credits per shift - inspection or survey scores - deep clean and turndown rotations - training - chemical and equipment competence - languages - availability.
Education

Education and certifications

No education requirement stands between you and this job, and a high school diploma or GED is enough for almost every posting. Training is what differentiates: OSHA Hazard Communication covers the chemical safety a serious employer expects, bloodborne pathogen training matters in hotels, hospitals and senior living, and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute runs recognised housekeeping credentials including Certified Guest Room Attendant.

  • AHLEI Certified Guest Room Attendant, or Certified Hospitality Housekeeping Executive for supervisory roles
  • OSHA Hazard Communication or an OSHA 10-hour general industry card
  • Bloodborne pathogen training, important for hotels, hospitals and senior living
  • Property or brand housekeeping training programs, named
  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent schooling with the country and year
  • CPR and first aid, valued in private households and senior care settings
  • Languages with honest proficiency, plus a driving licence for private and estate roles
Careful
If a private household role will involve children, driving or care, say so plainly and note any background check you have already passed. Families screen hard, and volunteering it saves a round.
No experience

Housekeeping resume with no experience

This is one of the most accessible jobs in hospitality, and properties hire and train constantly because turnover is high. What a manager needs from a new housekeeper is stamina, reliability and the discipline to follow a cleaning sequence exactly, and those can be evidenced from outside the industry.

Write any physical, standards-driven work you have done: kitchen or dish work, warehouse, retail stocking, care work, cleaning at a school or a gym, or unpaid caring for a family home to a standard. Say what you can lift and how long you can stand, because the job is physical and managers worry about it. Then state availability, because weekends, holidays and the checkout-day rush are what they are trying to cover.

  • Any physical or standards-based work with hours and volume attached
  • Cleaning done in another setting: kitchen, gym, school, care home, retail floor
  • References who can speak to reliability and honesty, named as available
  • Any chemical safety or OSHA training you already hold
  • Weekend, holiday and early-morning availability, stated plainly

Mistakes

Common mistakes

'Attention to detail' with nothing behind it

It is the most written and least believed phrase in hospitality. Replace it with an inspection pass rate, a survey score or a rework rate - the measurement already exists, so use it.

No volume number

Credits or rooms per shift is how the whole department is planned. Without it, a manager cannot tell whether you can carry a full board on a checkout-heavy Sunday.

Leaving out chemicals and equipment

Dilution, dwell times, Safety Data Sheets, never mixing products, extractors and buffers. This is real technical knowledge and it also signals that you will not damage a marble counter or a guest.

No mention of trust

Master keys, occupied rooms, lost and found, a family's home and belongings. A clean record with valuables is the most important thing about you and it usually goes unsaid.

Writing hotel work for a private family, or the reverse

Hotels buy speed against a standard. Families buy discretion, consistency and long tenure. The same experience needs a different top third for each.

A decorated resume with a photo

Hotel groups, hospitals and cleaning contractors parse applications automatically, and columns and images get dropped. Single column, plain headings, no headshot.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Use the measurement that already exists. Hotels inspect rooms, so you have a first-time inspection pass rate; guests are surveyed on room cleanliness, so there is a score; rework and callbacks are logged. Any of those turns the claim into a fact - '97% first-time inspection pass rate over two years' is unarguable in a way that 'detail-oriented' never is. For private households, use the equivalent: years with one family, a reference willing to speak to standards, or a property that never needed a re-clean.
In many hotels a housekeeper's workload is measured in credits rather than rooms, because a checkout takes longer than a stayover and a suite takes longer than a standard king. If your property used credits, write both: '15-16 credits, roughly 13-15 rooms a shift'. If it counted rooms, say rooms and note the split between checkouts and stayovers. Either way, give the room count of the property so a reader knows the scale you worked at.
Different in the top third. A hotel executive housekeeper reads for speed against a standard, inspection scores, deep clean and turndown rotations, cart and linen par levels, and whether you can be relied on for weekend and holiday coverage. A private family reads for discretion, trust, tenure, flexibility across laundry, ironing, errands and pets, and whether you can work with the family at home. Keep both versions and lead each with what that reader is buying.
Be specific about the safety knowledge, not the brand names. Reading labels and Safety Data Sheets, correct dilution, contact and dwell times for disinfectants, never mixing products, correct storage and labelling, and the ventilation and gloves the product requires. Then list equipment you have operated - commercial vacuums, carpet extractors, floor buffers, steamers. Add which delicate surfaces you have handled, because damaging a natural stone counter or a leather sofa is exactly what a private employer fears.
No, and almost no posting requires one. What helps is safety training - OSHA Hazard Communication for chemicals and bloodborne pathogen training for hotels, hospitals and senior living - because it reduces the employer's risk and their onboarding time. The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute also offers a Certified Guest Room Attendant credential and supervisory certifications if you want the executive housekeeper track. List only what you have completed.
Nothing. Rates vary a great deal between hotel, hospital, contract cleaning and private household work, between union and non-union properties, and between cities, so a figure on the page only works against you. Look at current postings in your area for the exact setting before you discuss it. What reliably raises the rate is worth writing though: inspection scores, deep clean and floor care capability, second language, driving licence, supervisory experience and private household references.
State them briefly and honestly rather than stretching dates. Caring for family, a move, seasonal property closures and recovery from injury are all ordinary and none of them disqualify you. What does damage an application is a date that a former employer corrects during a reference check, because this job runs on trust and a caught inaccuracy costs you more here than in most fields.
