Customer service hiring in India moves fast and screens on very specific facts. A recruiter in Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Pune or Bengaluru wants to know in the first ten seconds whether you are voice or non-voice, domestic or international, which CRM you have logged into, what your AHT, CSAT and first-call resolution looked like, and whether you can do rotational and night shifts. Most customer service resumes answer none of those and fall back on 'excellent communication skills', which proves nothing to a hiring manager who runs a floor of 200 people. Below is a full sample written the way a BPO team leader reads it, with metrics, escalation handling and shift availability in plain sight, plus the fresher route in.

Customer service executive resume sample

Structured the way a BPO recruiter reads it: process type first, tools and metrics next, shift availability and joining date where nobody has to hunt for them.

Voice or non-voice, stated up front

International voice, domestic voice, chat, email and back office are different hiring pipelines with different interviews. A resume that does not say which one gets routed to the wrong queue or none at all.

Metrics that a team leader recognises

AHT, CSAT, FCR, quality score and adherence are the language of the floor. Numbers against them prove you worked in a measured process rather than just answered phones.

Shift availability said openly

Rotational and night shifts are the single biggest drop-off in BPO hiring. Stating that you are open to them puts you ahead of half the applicants before the call.

ATS friendly

Volume hiring means bulk screening on words like voice process, Zendesk, Salesforce, escalation and CSAT. Keep them as plain text in a single column, not inside tables or graphics.

Sample resume text

Use it as a reference: keep the structure and wording, put in your own facts and numbers.

Profile

Customer service executive profile summary

Three or four lines answering the screening questions before they are asked: years in customer service, process type (international voice, domestic voice, chat, email), industry (e-commerce, telecom, banking, travel, healthcare), CRM tools, one or two metrics, and your shift flexibility. A team leader reads this and knows immediately whether to call you.

If your English is a strength, prove it rather than claiming it: a Versant score, a Cambridge or IELTS band, or simply the fact that you handled US or UK customers on voice for two years. 'Excellent communication skills' is the most common line in Indian customer service resumes and carries no weight at all.

WeakDedicated customer service executive with excellent communication skills and ability to handle pressure. Looking for a good opportunity in a reputed company to use my abilities for the growth of the organisation.

Tip
Put process type, CRM, top metric and shift availability in the first four lines. A BPO recruiter screening 200 resumes a day rarely reaches the second half of the page.
Skills

Customer service executive skills for a resume

Process handling, tools, metrics and the behaviour that keeps an angry customer on the line. Every line here should be something a quality audit could confirm.

Hard skills

  • Voice process: inbound and outbound calls, call flow, hold and transfer etiquette, after-call work
  • Non-voice process: email support, live chat with 2-3 parallel chats, ticket handling
  • CRM and ticketing tools: Salesforce Service Cloud, Zendesk, Freshdesk, ServiceNow
  • Metrics ownership: AHT, CSAT, FCR, quality score, adherence, shrinkage, hold percentage
  • Escalation matrix: L1 to L2 handover, supervisor calls, complaint closure within TAT
  • International process exposure: US, UK or APAC customers, accent neutralisation, cultural etiquette
  • Domestic process: Hindi and one regional language support in telecom, banking or e-commerce
  • Order, refund, replacement and dispute workflows in e-commerce or BFSI
  • Knowledge base use, plus writing the article after a new issue type appears
  • Basic Excel and Google Sheets for daily productivity and disposition trackers

Soft skills

  • Staying level with an angry customer for the full length of the call
  • Listening to the end of the problem before offering the fix
  • Clear, neutral English that a customer in another country follows easily
  • Empathy that sounds like a person and not a script line
  • Judging when to escalate and when to own the case to closure
  • Holding quality through rotational and night shifts
  • Taking QA audit feedback and changing behaviour on the next call
  • Supporting new joiners on the floor during nesting and OJT
  • Typing and navigating the CRM while the customer is still talking
  • Adherence discipline: login time, break time, unplanned leave
Experience

How to write customer service experience

Formula: process type plus industry plus volume plus tool plus metric. Not 'handled customer queries', but which customers, how many a day, on which platform, and how your numbers compared with the target.

If your company never shared individual metrics, use what you can defend: contacts handled per day, the quality score from your audits, the number of escalations you closed, a client appreciation or an employee of the month award with the month named. Never invent a CSAT figure - reference checks in BPO hiring are quick and common.

Weak- Attended customer calls, resolved their queries and maintained a good relationship with customers.
Strong- Handled 60-70 contacts a day on international voice and chat for a US e-commerce client using Zendesk and Salesforce: CSAT 92% against an 88% target, FCR 84%, AHT 6 minutes 10 seconds against a 7 minute benchmark, quality score 95% across the last 6 audits.
What to include
Process type (voice, chat, email) - domestic or international - industry - daily contact volume - CRM tools - AHT, CSAT, FCR, quality score against target - escalations closed - shift pattern worked.
Education

Education and certifications

Customer service is one of the most open doors in India: most international BPO roles ask for a graduate in any stream, and many domestic processes hire 12th pass. Write the degree, college, university, year of passing and percentage, and do not apologise for a modest score - communication and shift flexibility decide these interviews far more than marks do.

  • Degree or 12th, with board or university, year of passing and percentage
  • English proficiency evidence: Versant score, IELTS band, Cambridge or a British Council course
  • CRM or support tool certifications: Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, Freshdesk
  • Process training completed at an employer: voice and accent, product certification, nesting and OJT
  • Typing speed certificate if you are applying for chat, email or back office roles
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt or a quality module if you want to move toward QA or team lead
Careful
If you are a graduate, drop Class 10 marks after your first job. If you have a gap year or a dropped course, state the year plainly - an unexplained gap raises more doubt in BPO screening than the gap itself.
Freshers

Customer service resume for freshers

This is one of the easiest sectors in India to enter without experience, which is exactly why fresher resumes here look identical. Almost every applicant writes 'good communication skills, hardworking, quick learner'. What gets you the call is specific evidence of English, willingness to work shifts, and any experience of dealing with people under pressure.

Count what you already did: a retail or food outlet counter, campus placement coordination, a college helpdesk, tuition classes, telecalling for a family business, moderating a community group. Each of them involved handling people who wanted something, and that is the job. Write one of them with a number in it.

  • Any people-facing work, paid or not, written with volume: 'handled 40-50 walk-in customers a day at a retail counter'
  • Evidence of English: Versant, IELTS, a spoken English course, or a college presentation or debate record
  • Clear line on shift flexibility: rotational, night shift, and whether you can arrange your own transport
  • Computer basics: typing speed, MS Office, comfort with a CRM after training
  • Languages you speak with fluency level, since domestic processes hire specifically for Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali or Marathi

Mistakes

Common mistakes

'Excellent communication skills' and nothing else

It is the single most repeated line in Indian customer service resumes, so it carries no signal. Replace it with a Versant score, an IELTS band, or two years of handling US customers on voice.

No process type stated

International voice, domestic voice, chat, email and back office are separate hiring tracks. If the recruiter has to guess, your resume goes to the bottom of the pile or into the wrong one.

No metrics at all

AHT, CSAT, FCR, quality score, contacts per day. A customer service resume without a single number reads as though you never worked in a measured process, which in this industry is hard to believe.

Shift availability hidden

If you cannot do night shifts, say so and target domestic or day-shift processes. If you can, put it on the resume - it removes the biggest objection before the first call.

Aadhaar, PAN, photo and family details

None of them belong on a CV, and an Aadhaar or PAN number on a document you email to unknown consultants is a real identity risk. Keep location, notice period and languages instead.

Short stints with no explanation

Attrition is high in BPO and recruiters look for it. If you left a process after 5 months because the account shut down or the shift changed, write that in half a line rather than leaving the reader to assume the worst.

Takeaways

Takeaways

Remember

  • Voice or non-voice, domestic or international, in line one
  • CRM tools by name: Salesforce, Zendesk, Freshdesk
  • AHT, CSAT and FCR against the target
  • Shift flexibility and notice period stated openly
  • English proved with a score, not claimed
  • No Aadhaar, no PAN, no photo

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes, in the job title line and again in the summary. They are separate hiring tracks with separate interviews: voice is screened on spoken English and call handling, non-voice on written English, typing speed and parallel chat handling. If you have done both, lead with the one the job ad asks for and keep the other as a second line. A resume that leaves it unsaid gets sorted into whichever queue has room, which is rarely the one you want.
Not to apply - most companies run their own versant-style or voice assessment during the interview. But if you already have a score, put it on the resume, because it answers the first question a recruiter has about an international role and moves you past applicants who only claim fluency. If you do not have one, give other evidence: years spent handling US or UK customers, an IELTS band, or a spoken English certification.
Use the numbers you can stand behind. Contacts handled per day, the quality score from your monthly audits, the number of escalations you closed, the months you were on the top performers list, any client appreciation mail. Write one line saying which metrics your process was measured on, even without your personal figure - it shows you worked in a measured environment. Never invent a CSAT number, because BPO reference checks are fast and the floor is a small world.
Yes, explicitly. Shift refusal is the biggest single reason BPO offers fall through, so a candidate who states availability up front is easier to process. Write it as one line near your location: rotational shifts, night shifts, week-off flexibility, and whether you need company transport. If night shifts are not possible for you, say that too and target domestic or day-shift processes rather than losing time in interviews for roles you will decline.
Keep it off the resume and discuss it on the recruiter call, where you can ask the band for the process first. To set your expectation, look at current listings on Naukri, Indeed and Apna for your city, process type and experience, since packages differ sharply between domestic and international processes and between metros. What raises the offer is consistent: international voice over domestic, night shift allowance, a specialised domain such as banking, insurance or healthcare with the compliance training behind it, a second language the process hires for, and metrics you can prove. Quote a range you can support from live postings, and keep current CTC and notice period consistent everywhere since both get verified.
Three things decide it: spoken English, shift willingness and process familiarity. Get a Versant or equivalent score and put it on the resume, state night shift availability, and rewrite your existing bullets in international-process language - contacts per day, AHT, FCR, CRM name, escalation handling. Chat and email roles are often the easier bridge, because they are screened on written English rather than accent, and once you are inside the account a move to voice is an internal transfer.
Yes - this is one of the most open entry points in the Indian job market, and most international BPOs hire any-stream graduates with training provided. Your resume needs three things: proof of English, clear shift availability, and one piece of people-facing experience with a number in it, even from a retail counter, a college helpdesk or telecalling for a family business. Skip the objective paragraph and use those lines instead.
