Sample Resume

An HR manager resume sample — built from the best practices of 2026

This structure is based on top-ranking HR resumes and 2026 hiring research. Kevin Foster is a composite — the phrasing, metrics, and section order reflect patterns we see in resumes that succeed at financial services, product, and enterprise HR roles.

Numbers, not adjectives

"Voluntary attrition 24% → 14%" — CHROs read in 7 seconds, numbers earn the stop.

US/UK-specific compliance

EEOC compliance, FLSA, ERISA, SHRM-CP — recruiters scan for these exact strings.

Org size stated

320-person engineering org makes the rest of the resume legible.

ATS-friendly layout

No nested tables or icons inside columns — every parser can read every line.

Professional Summary

How to write an HR manager professional summary

Your professional summary is 3–4 lines that answer one HR head's question: "Will this candidate own talent for a 200-person org?" Without it, even strong recruiting numbers read as a list of company names.

A strong summary names three things: years in HR, primary domain (TA, HRBP, comp & ben, L&D), and one outcome — hires made, attrition reduced, employee NPS shift. Skip "people-oriented HR professional".

WeakPeople-oriented and dynamic HR professional with strong communication and recruitment experience. Looking for a challenging role.
StrongHRBP with 6 years across IT services and B2B SaaS. Owned HR operations for a 320-person engineering org at Infosys; cut voluntary attrition from 24% → 14% in 18 months through structured 1:1 framework and skip-level cadence. SHRM-CP certified.
Recruiter tip
For TA-led roles, lead with annual hire count, source mix, and time-to-fill. For HRBP, lead with org size supported and one programme (engagement, performance, restructuring).
Skills

HR manager resume skills: 20+ examples

Resume skills for HR managers split into systems / tools (HRIS, ATS, comp tools you can be tested on) and HR practice (employee relations, business partnering, leadership). List both — but lead with systems / tools, because HR ops scans for those exact terms.

HR systems & tools (hard)

  • Workday
  • SAP SuccessFactors
  • Darwinbox
  • BambooHR
  • LinkedIn Recruiter ATS
  • LinkedIn Recruiter
  • Hiringbull / Lever / Greenhouse
  • Compensation banding
  • EEOC / sexual harassment compliance
  • PF / ESI / professional tax
  • Performance management (OKRs, 9-box)
  • Power BI / Tableau (people analytics)

HR practice (soft)

  • Employee relations
  • Business partnering
  • Stakeholder communication
  • Coaching and conflict resolution
  • Talent strategy
  • Change management
  • Mentoring junior HR
  • Vendor management
Experience

How to describe HR experience on a resume

The experience section is what HR heads scan for ownership and outcomes. Use the formula: action verb + scope + measurable outcome. Quantify wherever possible — hires, attrition, eNPS, time-to-fill, training hours delivered.

Write 3–5 bullets per role. Always lead with strong verbs: "owned", "designed", "scaled", "reduced". Mention org size and segment (engineering, sales, ops) — domain experience is a hire signal.

Weak bullet• Was responsible for recruitment and employee engagement activities.
Strong bullet• Owned end-to-end TA for a 320-person engineering org; closed 86 hires (12% from referrals, 22% from LinkedIn Recruiter); time-to-fill cut from 47 days to 28 days.
What to include
Role · company · dates (month + year) · location · 3–5 result-led bullets. Always state org size supported and primary HR domain (TA, HRBP, L&D, ops).
Education & Certifications

How to list education on an HR resume

For HR roles, education matters meaningfully — most senior HR roles require MBA-HR or equivalent. List degree, college, year, and any HR-specific specialisms.

  • Full institution name (no abbreviations): "Cornell ILR School"
  • Degree and specialism: "MBA, Human Resources"
  • Years: 2017 — 2019
  • Class only if First Class with Distinction
  • Certifications — separate block: SHRM-CP / SCP, CIPD, EEOC compliance training — newest first
  • Workshops, conferences, speaking — for senior roles
Critical
For 2026 US / UK: CIPD Level 7 (UK), SHRM-CP / SCP (US), Workday / SuccessFactors Pro are widely recognised credentials.
Fresher resume

HR manager resume for freshers (MBA-HR, MSW)

If you've just finished MBA-HR / MSW / B.Com — internships and live projects are your experience section. Lead with three things: HR internships at brands, summer projects, and any live ATS / hiring you did during the programme.

Add an "HR Internships & Projects" section with 2–3 bullets — each with company, scope, and one outcome. Two months on a LinkedIn / LinkedIn Recruiter project sourcing 40 candidates is real experience.

  • Internships: company, role, scope, outcome
  • On-campus HR projects (placement cell, club leadership)
  • Live projects: hiring sprint, comp study, GTM for HR product
  • Capstone: methodology, stakeholders, key findings
  • Certifications: SHRM-CP, EEOC compliance, Workday Pro, Coursera HR analytics
  • Languages spoken (second-language fluency is a hire signal)

Mistakes

Common mistakes on HR manager resumes

No metrics in bullets

"Managed recruitment" is filler. "Closed 86 hires with time-to-fill 28 days" is a hire signal.

Generic ATS / HRIS mention

"Worked on HR systems" tells a recruiter nothing. Name them: Workday, SuccessFactors, Darwinbox, Greenhouse.

No org size or scope

A "talent acquisition manager" without org size looks vague. State 200-person engineering org, 50-person sales team, etc.

EEOC / compliance not mentioned

For US HR roles, EEOC compliance training and basic labour-law knowledge are expected. List them.

Generic "people skills" without proof

"Strong people skills" — every applicant says that. Replace with one programme: "Designed a structured 1:1 framework rolled out to 18 EMs".

No domain mentioned

IT services HR vs product company HR vs manufacturing HR are different worlds. State domain for every role.

3+ pages with thin content

For 0–10 years, 1 page. For 10–15, 2 pages max. Concise wins.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

For 0–10 years experience, 1 A4 page. For 10–15 years or VP-level, 2 pages max. CHROs spend 7–10 seconds — domain and one metric on page one.
In the US, HR roles traditionally accept a photo, but tech / product companies prefer no photo. If included, neutral background, formal attire, passport-style 4×4 only.
Lead with internships and live projects. A 2-month internship sourcing 40 candidates with named ATS is real experience. Add an "HR Projects" section if you ran a placement cell or campus hiring.
For 2026 US / UK: CIPD Level 7 (UK), SHRM-CP / SCP (US), EEOC compliance training, Workday / SuccessFactors Pro, Coursera HR Analytics. Skip generic "soft skills" workshops.
Use generalised language: "Resolved 14 employee grievances over 12 months through structured 1:1s and policy clarifications". Never name individuals or include identifiable details.
Keep under 150 words: why this org / domain, your strongest programme or hire, and one line on what you'd build. Skip generic "I am a passionate HR professional".
Only if First Class with Distinction or top-decile. For top-tier institutions (Cornell ILR School, Cornell ILR, CMU), the institution carries the signal — grades are not a plus.
Lead with org size, employee NPS, attrition delta, leadership programmes designed, and any restructuring led. Push education to the bottom. Add a "Selected Programmes" section showing 2–3 flagships.
