Market Research Analyst Resume 2026 - survey, segmentation and insights sample free

A market research analyst resume has to prove two different things at once: that your methods hold up, and that somebody acted on what you found. Methods alone read as a syllabus, and decisions alone read as opinion. The strongest version names the study type, the sample and how it was drawn, the analysis you ran, and the business decision that followed - a pack size that changed, a price that held, a launch that was stopped. This is a different job from a data analyst, who mostly works internal behavioural and transactional data through dashboards, and from a business analyst, who works requirements and process inside one organisation. A research analyst goes outside the company for evidence, through surveys, interviews, panels and syndicated sources. Below is a full sample with quantitative and qualitative work and the decisions attached.

Market research analyst resume sample

What an insights director reads for: the studies you have run end to end, the methods behind them, the software you can open, and what changed in the business afterwards.

Studies with sample and method

'Fielded a 2,400-respondent national study with age, region and income quotas' tells a reader more about your competence than any adjective. Name the design as well as the finding.

Decisions, not decks

Every study on the page should end in something that happened: a price held, an SKU cut, a segment targeted, a campaign killed before it ran. Research with no decision attached reads as a report service.

Quant and qual both represented

Most teams want one person who can run a conjoint and moderate a set of interviews. Show both, and say which you are stronger in rather than implying equal depth.

ATS friendly

Single column, standard headings, no photo, no charts. Statistical software names are exactly what recruiters search for, so they belong in plain text, not in an image.

Sample resume text

Use it as a reference: keep the structure and wording, put in your own facts and numbers.

Profile

Market Research Analyst with 5 years in consumer goods and retail insights, supplier side then client side. Runs 18 to 24 studies a year across segmentation, conjoint pricing, concept testing and brand tracking, plus moderated interviews. Built the 5-segment framework now used for targeting across 4 brands, and a conjoint study that replaced a proposed across-the-board price increase. Qualtrics, Sawtooth, SPSS, R and Tableau.

Experience

Market Research Analyst, Consumer Insights2023 - present

Alderbrook Household Brands, Boston, MA

  • Designed and fielded a 2,400-respondent choice-based conjoint in Sawtooth with age, region and income quotas; the resulting price architecture let the team hold a lower list price while raising margin per unit, replacing a proposed across-the-board increase
  • Built a 5-segment consumer framework from a 3,100-respondent study using factor and cluster analysis, now the basis of media targeting and packaging decisions across 4 brands
  • Runs the quarterly brand tracker across 3 categories, reporting wave-on-wave movement with significance testing and flagging a 4-point consideration decline that triggered a creative review
  • Moderated 42 in-depth interviews on a new format concept and recommended against launch, which the team accepted after the concept scored below the internal action standard
Research Analyst2021 - 2023

Kelbourne Insights Group (research agency), Boston, MA

  • Ran 6 to 9 concurrent studies for CPG, retail and financial services clients, from questionnaire design through fieldwork management to the final recommendation
  • Cut average survey fielding time from 19 to 12 days by rebuilding screener logic and tightening incidence assumptions with the panel vendor
  • Delivered a shopper study whose findings led a retail client to change shelf adjacency in 340 stores, with the test stores outperforming control over the following quarter
Research Associate2020 - 2021

Kelbourne Insights Group, Boston, MA

  • Programmed and tested surveys in Qualtrics, including quota logic and translations for two bilingual studies
  • Produced cross-tabs with significance testing for 30+ projects and wrote the first-draft topline reports

Market research analyst profile summary

Four lines: years in research, the categories and audiences you study, your method mix, and one decision your work produced. Say whether you have worked supplier side, client side or both, because the two hire for different strengths - throughput and rigour on one side, influence and business context on the other.

Early in your career, build the same paragraph from studies you genuinely ran, including academic ones, as long as you can defend the sampling. A thesis with a real instrument and a clean analysis is evidence; a course list is not.

Tip
Give sample size and how the sample was drawn, not just the number. A 2,400-respondent panel study with quotas and weighting is a different claim from 2,400 responses to a link posted in a newsletter.
Skills

Market research analyst skills for a resume

Design, field, analyse, and land the finding. Name the software by product and the methods by their real names, because both are searched literally and tested in interviews.

Hard skills

  • Questionnaire design: screeners, scales, question order, bias and fatigue control, pilot testing
  • Sampling and fielding: quotas, stratified samples, weighting, incidence and response rate management
  • Survey platforms: Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, Alchemer or Forsta
  • Advanced quantitative methods: conjoint, MaxDiff and TURF in Sawtooth Software
  • Segmentation: cluster and factor analysis, key driver and regression analysis
  • Statistical tooling: SPSS, R or Python, plus Excel for cross-tabs and weighting checks
  • Qualitative research: in-depth interviews, focus group moderation, discussion guides, thematic coding in NVivo, ATLAS.ti or Dovetail
  • Secondary and competitive intelligence: Nielsen, Circana, Mintel, Euromonitor, Statista, public filings
  • Reporting and visualisation: Tableau, Power BI or Looker Studio, plus a written recommendation
  • Brand and category tracking: wave design, trend reporting, significance testing between waves

Soft skills

  • Turning a vague stakeholder question into a research objective you can field
  • Saying the finding that the sponsor did not want, clearly and once
  • Explaining significance and margin of error without a statistics lecture
  • Moderating an interview without leading the respondent
  • Recommending a decision rather than presenting options and stepping back
  • Managing a fieldwork vendor and a timeline that slips
  • Writing an executive summary that can be read on a phone
  • Knowing when a question does not need new research at all
  • Keeping respondent privacy and consent handled properly
  • Presenting to a room that includes the person whose idea the data just weakened
Experience

How to write market research analyst experience

Formula: study type plus design plus analysis plus decision. Say how many studies you run a year in the job header so the reader can judge your throughput, then use the bullets for the studies that changed something.

Supplier-side work should name the number of concurrent projects and the client categories. Client-side work should name the stakeholders you served and what they did with the findings, because on that side the value is influence rather than volume.

Weak- Conducted market research studies and surveys, analysed the data and presented findings to stakeholders in the business.
Strong- Designed and fielded a 2,400-respondent choice-based conjoint in Sawtooth with age, region and income quotas, and the resulting price architecture let the team hold a lower list price while raising margin per unit, replacing a proposed across-the-board increase.
What to include
Study type - sample size and how it was drawn - method and software - fieldwork timeline - the finding in one clause - the decision it drove - who made that decision.
Education

Education and certifications

Market research draws from marketing, statistics, economics, psychology, sociology and public health, and a master's is common but not required. If your degree included real methods training - survey design, multivariate statistics, qualitative methods - say so, because that is precisely what separates the analyst who can design a study from the one who can only run the tabs.

  • Degree and institution, with the methods coursework named when it is relevant
  • Master's degree in marketing research, statistics, economics or a social science, if you have one
  • Insights Association Professional Researcher Certification (PRC)
  • Qualtrics platform certifications for survey and research operations roles
  • Sawtooth Software training for conjoint and MaxDiff work
  • Statistics or data science courses in R, Python or SPSS, named with what you built
  • A thesis or capstone with a real instrument, described in one line with the sample and method
Careful
Do not claim a method you have only read about. Conjoint, MaxDiff and segmentation all get probed in interviews, usually by asking how you set the attribute list or chose the number of clusters.
Entry level

Market research resume with no agency experience

Entry-level research hiring looks for evidence that you can design an instrument and analyse the result without supervision. A dissertation, a capstone or a well-run student project with a genuine sample gives you that, provided you write it as work: objective, design, sample, method, finding, and what you recommended.

Add fluency in at least one serious tool beyond Excel. Building a real Qualtrics survey with logic and quotas, running cross-tabs with significance testing, or doing a clean cluster analysis in R puts you ahead of most applicants who list software they have only seen in a lecture.

  • One study you designed and fielded yourself, with sample size and method
  • Analysis you can defend: cross-tabs with significance testing, a regression, a cluster solution
  • A qualitative component: interviews you moderated and coded
  • A short written report with a recommendation, usable as a portfolio piece
  • Tool proof: a Qualtrics survey you built, an R or SPSS script you wrote

Mistakes

Common mistakes

Studies with no decision attached

A list of research you delivered reads as a report service. Insights teams are judged on influence, so end each bullet with what the business did differently.

Sample sizes without sampling

A big number means nothing if the sample was self-selected. Say how it was drawn, what the quotas were and whether you weighted, and the figure starts carrying weight.

Method names you cannot defend

Conjoint, MaxDiff, TURF and factor analysis all get probed in the technical screen. List only what you have run yourself, and be ready to explain the setup choices.

Reading like a data analyst resume

SQL pipelines and dashboard counts point at a different job. Research hiring reads for instrument design, sampling, significance and qualitative depth first.

All quant or all qual, unlabelled

Implying balance you do not have gets found out in the first interview. Say which side you are strong on and what you have supported on the other.

Confidentiality handled carelessly

Naming client brands and quoting unpublished findings on a public resume worries every hiring manager who has signed an NDA. Describe the category and the decision instead.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A data analyst mostly works data the company already owns - transactions, product usage, CRM records - through SQL, dashboards and reporting. A market research analyst generates new evidence from outside the company: surveys, interviews, panels, syndicated category data and competitive sources, then interprets it for a business decision. The overlap is statistics and visualisation. The difference that matters on a resume is instrument design and sampling, which no dashboard work demonstrates, so lead with those.
End the bullet with the decision and name who made it. A price architecture adopted instead of a proposed increase, two SKUs discontinued, a launch delayed for reformulation, a segment chosen as the media target. Where the decision went against your recommendation, you can still write what the study established. Insights teams are hired to shift decisions, and a resume full of studies with no consequences reads as a research vendor rather than a partner.
Only the ones you have personally run. On the quantitative side that usually means questionnaire design, sampling and weighting, cross-tabs with significance testing, key driver or regression analysis, segmentation through cluster and factor analysis, and pricing work through conjoint, MaxDiff or Van Westendorp. On the qualitative side, in-depth interviews, focus group moderation, discussion guide writing and thematic coding. Name the software beside each, since interviewers often ask you to walk through a specific setup.
Yes. Supplier or agency readers want throughput and rigour: concurrent projects, categories covered, fieldwork management, turnaround times, methods depth. Client-side readers want business influence: which stakeholders you served, how you turned an ambiguous question into a study, and what changed as a result. The studies stay the same, but the job header and the first bullet of each role should signal which environment you are applying into.
Enough to design correctly and to know when a difference is real. In practice: sampling and weighting, confidence intervals and significance testing, correlation versus causation, regression and key driver analysis, and the assumptions behind whatever segmentation method you use. Advanced modelling is a plus rather than a baseline for most analyst postings, but being unable to explain why a two-point difference is not a finding is disqualifying.
Pay varies by market, by supplier versus client side, and by how technical the role is, so read current postings for your city and level instead of a single figure. What raises the rate is consistent: advanced quantitative methods such as conjoint and segmentation, programming in R or Python, experience in a category the employer sells into, the ability to moderate as well as analyse, and a record of research that visibly changed decisions. Keep compensation off the resume.
Only in a form your agreements allow. The safe approach is to describe the study without identifying the client: the category, the objective, the design and sample, the method and the type of decision that followed, with no unpublished figures. Interviewers understand these constraints and will usually ask how you would design a study for their problem instead, so preparing a method walk-through matters more than a portfolio document.
Yes - the sample above and every template on this page. You can build your own version in the builder for free and preview it; downloading the finished PDF is paid, by subscription or one-time payment. The templates keep a single-column, ATS-safe structure, which matters because software and method names are the terms recruiters search on and they have to parse as plain text.
