Project Manager Resume 2026 - delivery, PMP and team size sample for India free

A project manager resume is read as a delivery record, not a list of duties. Whoever screens it wants four facts fast: what you delivered, how many people reported into you, what budget or effort you owned, and how you run a project - Agile ceremonies, a waterfall plan, or the hybrid most Indian IT services accounts actually use. The market splits: services delivery in Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Gurgaon runs on onsite-offshore coordination, client governance calls and margin, while construction and manufacturing PM roles run on site progress, vendors, safety and material cost. Below is a full sample written for IT services delivery, with the changes to make for other industries and the escalation evidence that senior interviewers actually probe.

Project manager resume sample

The structure that gets read at IT services firms and product companies alike: scope and scale first, delivery outcomes in numbers, certifications where they are searched for.

Scale in the first paragraph

Team size, project duration, budget or effort owned, and client geography. Without these a PM resume could belong to a coordinator or to a delivery head, and the screener will assume the lower one.

Delivery outcomes, not ceremonies

'Ran daily stand-ups' says you attended. 'Delivered 11 releases in 12 months with 2 slipped dates, both re-baselined with client sign-off' says you managed.

Methodology stated plainly

Agile, Scrum, Kanban, waterfall or hybrid - and which one on which project. Interviewers ask about ceremonies and estimation, and a vague answer ends the call.

ATS friendly

Recruiters search on PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, JIRA, SAFe and the domain. Those words need to appear as plain text, not inside a graphic skills wheel that an ATS reads as blank.

Sample resume text

Use it as a reference: keep the structure and wording, put in your own facts and numbers.

Project manager profile summary

Four lines at most: years in delivery, industry and domain, largest team and budget you have owned, methodology, certifications, and one delivery result in numbers. This paragraph decides whether the reader places you at 8 people or 40, and every later bullet is read through that assumption.

If you moved into project management from a technical or functional role, say so in one clause and then move on. 'Developer for 5 years, PM for 4' explains your depth; a resume that hides the transition looks like a CV with a gap in it.

WeakResult-oriented project manager with excellent communication and leadership skills. Handled multiple projects and coordinated with various stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of assignments.

Write your certification exactly as recruiters search it: PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, CSM, PSM I, SAFe Agilist. Abbreviations and full names both get searched, so use the abbreviation with the full name once.
Skills

Project manager skills for a resume

Planning, a delivery method, tools, money and people. Each line should map to something a client or a delivery head has actually held you accountable for.

Hard skills

  • Project planning: WBS, milestones, critical path, baselined schedules in MS Project or Primavera P6
  • Agile delivery: sprint planning, daily stand-up, sprint review, retrospective, backlog refinement
  • Scrum and Kanban in JIRA: epics, boards, velocity, burndown, custom workflows
  • Waterfall and hybrid delivery for fixed-bid and T&M engagements
  • Risk and issue management: RAID log, mitigation plans, documented escalation matrix
  • Estimation and budget control: effort estimation, resource loading, utilisation, delivery margin
  • Client governance: weekly status reports, steering committee decks, SOW and MSA basics
  • Onsite-offshore coordination across IST, EST and GMT overlap windows
  • Change control: change requests, impact analysis on scope, cost and schedule, sign-off
  • Delivery reporting: Confluence, SharePoint, JIRA dashboards, Excel and Power BI trackers

Soft skills

  • Running a client call where the news is bad and keeping the account
  • Escalation handling: when to raise, to whom, and with what evidence attached
  • Negotiating scope with the client and dates with the engineering lead in the same week
  • Holding a team of 15 to 30 together across two time zones
  • Written English for status reports read by onsite stakeholders
  • Refusing a date the team cannot hit, with a workable alternative ready
  • Coaching leads and running one-to-ones that surface problems early
  • Resolving conflict between offshore delivery and onsite architects
  • Deciding with incomplete information when the deadline will not wait
  • Staying calm and structured during a production escalation at 2 am IST
Experience

How to write project manager experience

Formula: project and domain plus scale (team, duration, budget or effort) plus what you owned plus the delivery result. Not 'managed project activities', but which project, how big, and what happened to scope, schedule, cost and quality under you.

Client names are often under NDA in Indian services work. Name the domain, the geography and the scale instead - 'UK retail bank, 26 member offshore team, 18 month core banking migration' carries far more weight than the account code ever will.

Weak- Managed the project, conducted daily stand-up calls with the team and shared status reports with the client on a weekly basis.
Strong- Ran an 18 month core banking data migration for a UK client with a 26 member offshore team and 3 onsite leads: delivered 11 releases in 12 months at 96% on-time, held delivery margin at plan after absorbing 4 approved change requests, and cut production defect leakage by 40% with a release readiness gate agreed with the client.
What to include
Domain and client geography - team size and structure - duration - budget or effort owned - methodology - releases delivered, on-time percentage, CSAT, defect leakage, margin - escalations you closed.
Education

Education and certifications

For a project manager the certifications carry more weight than the degree, but Indian recruiters still expect the degree block complete: full college, university, year of passing and percentage or CGPA. B.E. and B.Tech dominate IT delivery, MBA is common above 8 years, and civil or mechanical degrees are the norm in construction and manufacturing project management.

  • Degree, college, university, year of passing, with percentage or CGPA
  • PMP (Project Management Institute) with the year you cleared it
  • PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner, common on UK and European client accounts
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or PSM I, and SAFe Agilist for scaled programmes
  • ITIL 4 Foundation if your project touches support or managed services
  • MBA or PGDM with the specialisation named, not just the letters
  • Domain certifications that match the industry - NICMAR or PMP-CP for construction, Six Sigma for manufacturing
Careful
Add the PMI credential ID and the validity window for PMP. Screeners at large services firms verify it, and a PMP line with no year raises the question of whether it lapsed.
First PM role

Moving into project management

Almost nobody in India starts as a project manager. The usual routes are team lead to PM inside an IT services firm, scrum master or business analyst to PM, or site engineer to project engineer to PM in construction. Your resume has to show that you already did PM work before you had the title.

Pull out the parts of your current job that are project management and give them their own bullets: the module you planned and tracked, the 6 people you coordinated, the client call you ran alone, the risk you escalated in time. Then add a certification that signals intent - CSM is the cheapest credible first step, PMP needs documented project hours.

  • Lead or coordinator work written with team size, scope and dates
  • One certification finished: CSM, PSM I, or PMP if you meet the hour requirement
  • Client-facing evidence: status calls you ran, escalations you handled, reports you owned
  • Tools you already use daily: JIRA, Confluence, MS Project, Excel trackers
  • A delivery number from your current role - releases shipped, defects reduced, schedule recovered

Mistakes

Common mistakes

Responsibilities instead of outcomes

'Responsible for project planning, execution and monitoring' is a job description copied from the intranet. Write what you delivered, when, and at what quality.

No team size and no budget

These are the two numbers a delivery head looks for first. Without them your seniority is guessed, and the guess is never generous.

Methodology claimed but not lived

If the resume says Agile, expect questions on estimation, velocity, why a retrospective failed and how you handled a mid-sprint scope change. Only claim what you have run.

A wall of certifications with no projects behind them

PMP, PRINCE2, CSM, SAFe, ITIL and Six Sigma stacked together with thin delivery bullets reads as certificate collecting. Two certifications and one strong delivery story win.

No escalation or recovery story

Every senior interviewer probes for a project that went wrong. A resume where everything went perfectly is not believed. Include one recovery: what slipped, what you changed, where it landed.

Five pages and personal details

Two pages is the ceiling even at 12 years. Drop the photo, Aadhaar, PAN, father's name and marital status, and keep current location, preferred location and notice period instead.

Takeaways

Takeaways

Remember

  • Team size, duration and budget in the summary
  • Delivery outcomes with numbers, not ceremonies
  • Methodology named per project
  • PMP, PRINCE2 or CSM spelled the way recruiters search
  • One recovery story from a project that slipped
  • Two pages maximum, notice period in the header

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Not mandatory, but at large IT services firms it is often a filter for senior delivery roles and it is written into many client-facing job descriptions, particularly on US accounts. PRINCE2 is asked for more often on UK and European engagements, and CSM or PSM I matters most where delivery is fully Agile. If you have the documented project hours, PMP is still the credential that opens the widest set of doors; if you do not, CSM is the faster first step and nobody treats it as a substitute.
Drop the client name, keep the shape. 'UK retail bank' or 'US healthcare payer' tells the reader the domain and the compliance pressure without breaching anything. Team size, contract duration, effort in person-days and the number of releases are yours to state. If your firm forbids stating budget in currency, state effort in person-days or the number of FTEs you owned - a delivery head reads that just as well.
Leave it off the resume. Expected CTC belongs in the application form and the recruiter conversation, where you can ask about the band first. To set your number, read current postings on Naukri and LinkedIn for your city, your years in delivery and your certification set, since PM packages vary widely between service firms, product companies and captive GCCs. What reliably raises an offer: PMP with real programme scale behind it, owning a P&L or delivery margin rather than only a schedule, client-facing ownership at the steering committee level, a domain the employer sells into, and experience managing 20+ people across locations. Quote a range you can support with live listings, and keep current CTC and notice period consistent everywhere because both get verified.
Whatever you actually ran, project by project. Most Indian IT services delivery is hybrid: a fixed-bid contract and milestone plan on the outside, sprints on the inside. Saying that plainly is a strength, because it is what the hiring manager also lives with. Write the method next to each project rather than in a single 'Methodologies' line, so nobody has to guess which project was which.
Give it the same treatment as any other delivery fact: how many people offshore, how many onsite, which time zones, and what you did to make the overlap work. A concrete line works best - 'ran a 2 hour IST-EST overlap window with a documented handover, which cut clarification cycles from 2 days to same day'. Recruiters filter on the phrase 'onsite-offshore', so it should appear in your text as written.
Rewrite your lead work as delivery ownership. Name the modules you planned and tracked, the number of people you coordinated, the client calls you ran without your manager, the estimates you gave and how they held. Add one certification and remove deep technical detail from the top half of the resume, keeping it as a short 'technical background' block. A PM resume that reads like a senior developer's CV gets sorted back into the developer pile.
The structure holds, the content changes. Replace sprints and JIRA with the project schedule in Primavera or MS Project, site progress against plan, BOQ and material cost control, vendor and subcontractor management, safety record, and statutory approvals. The numbers a hiring manager looks for shift to project value, built-up area or capacity, schedule variance and cost variance. Keep the same discipline: scale, ownership, outcome.
