Account Executive Resume 2026 - ARR, quota attainment and full-cycle closing free

An account executive resume is a scorecard. Sales leaders read it in the order they think: quota, attainment, average contract value, win rate, cycle length, and where the pipeline came from. An AE owns the full cycle - discovery, evaluation, business case, procurement, signature - which is what separates the role from a sales representative who often works a defined product line and price list, and from a sales manager who owns a team number rather than a personal one. Segment is the other thing a reader is hunting for: SMB volume selling, mid-market, and enterprise deals with a security review and a legal redline are three different crafts on one job title. Below is a full sample with ARR figures, a SaaS stack written the way postings write it, and how to present an SDR-to-AE promotion so it reads as progression rather than a short stint.

Account executive resume sample

The layout a VP of Sales can scan in forty seconds: attainment history at the top, segment and quota under every job title, and deal economics inside the bullets.

A quota table the eye can find

Year, quota, attainment, ranking. Three lines of that near the top answer the only question the first screen is really asking, and it saves the recruiter from reconstructing it themselves.

Deal economics, not just totals

Average contract value, win rate, sales cycle length and pipeline coverage tell a hiring manager whether your motion transfers to their price point. $900K closed at a $15K ACV is a very different rep from $900K closed at $150K.

Where the pipeline came from

Self-sourced versus SDR-fed versus inbound changes everything about how you will perform in a team with a different support model. Say the split and say it honestly.

ATS friendly

Single column, standard headings, no photo, no charts. Attainment written inside a graphic is attainment the parser never sees, and SaaS companies run heavy applicant tracking.

Profile

Account executive profile summary

Four lines: years closing, the segment and the product category, your attainment record with the quota attached, and the methodology and stack you run. If you have a President's Club or a national ranking, it belongs in this paragraph rather than at the bottom of the page.

Moving up from SDR or BDR? Write the summary as a closer with sourcing strength: the quota you now carry, and the fact that you can fill your own pipeline, which is the thing every hiring manager is quietly worried about.

WeakDynamic account executive with a passion for building relationships and a proven ability to exceed targets in fast-paced environments. Strong closer and team player.
StrongAccount Executive with 4 years closing mid-market SaaS in HR technology, $42K average contract value and a 74-day cycle. 118% and 126% of an $850K ARR quota in the last two years, ranked 2 of 19 AEs, President's Club 2025. Tip
Always write new ARR and expansion ARR separately. A reader who cannot tell how much of your number came from renewals will assume the worst about the rest of the page.
Skills

Account executive skills for a resume

Full-cycle selling into a buying committee, plus the platforms the job posting will name. Every tool here should be one you could screen-share on day one.

Hard skills

  • Full-cycle closing: discovery, demo, technical evaluation, business case, procurement, close
  • Qualification frameworks: MEDDPICC, MEDDIC, Command of the Message, Challenger or SPICED
  • CRM: Salesforce or HubSpot Sales Hub, with clean stages, next steps and close dates
  • Sales engagement: Outreach or Salesloft sequences, Apollo.io and ZoomInfo for data
  • Conversation intelligence: Gong or Chorus for call review and deal inspection
  • Forecasting: pipeline coverage, stage conversion, weighted and commit forecasting, Clari
  • Multi-threading a buying committee: champion, economic buyer, security, legal, procurement
  • Contracting: MSAs, order forms, redlines with legal, DocuSign, security questionnaires
  • Pricing and packaging: seat-based and usage-based models, discounting bands, multi-year terms
  • Enablement content: Highspot or Seismic, mutual action plans, business value assessments

Soft skills

  • Discovery that uncovers a cost of inaction, not just a wish list
  • Running a room of five stakeholders who disagree with each other
  • Coaching a champion to sell internally when you are not there
  • Holding price under pressure without losing the relationship
  • Calling your own deal down in forecast when the signal says so
  • Partnering with solutions engineering, security and legal without escalating everything
  • Writing a follow-up recap a CFO would forward unedited
  • Patience through a 9-month enterprise cycle and a procurement freeze
  • Absorbing call coaching from recorded reviews and changing behaviour
  • Handing over a closed account to customer success so it renews
Experience

How to write account executive experience

Put the operating facts in the job header - segment, territory, quota, ACV - and keep the bullets for outcomes. That way a reader never has to hold two numbers in their head to understand a result.

Name logos only if your employer allows it and the brand means something to the reader. Otherwise describe them: 'a 4,000-employee healthcare system' or 'a publicly traded logistics firm' does the same work without a compliance problem.

Weak- Managed the full sales cycle for new business customers and consistently exceeded targets while maintaining strong client relationships.
Strong- Closed $1.07M in new ARR against an $850K quota (126%) at a $42K average contract value and a 27% win rate, including a $310K three-year agreement with a 4,000-employee healthcare system that took 9 months and cleared SOC 2 review and legal redlines.
What to include
Segment and territory - quota in ARR - attainment and ranking - new versus expansion split - ACV and cycle length - win rate - pipeline coverage and self-sourced percentage - largest deal - ramp time.
Education

Education and certifications

Degree, school and year is enough, and no GPA once you have two or three years of closing behind you. What genuinely helps in this section is the training that tells a hiring manager what language you sell in, because a team running Command of the Message will read a MEDDPICC line as a short onboarding.

  • Degree, institution and graduation year - any major, sales hires broadly
  • Methodology training: MEDDPICC, Challenger, Command of the Message, Sandler, Winning by Design
  • Salesforce Certified Administrator where you have genuinely built reports and processes
  • HubSpot Academy sales software or inbound sales certifications
  • Vendor and product certifications for the category you sell into
  • Internal enablement programs and AE academies, named by their program title
  • Industry knowledge that carries weight with your buyer: healthcare, fintech, manufacturing
Careful
President's Club is an award, not a certification. Put it in the summary or a short awards line near the top, where it is read as performance rather than training.
SDR to AE

Moving from SDR or BDR to account executive

The jump is made on two proofs: that you can source pipeline on your own, and that you have closed something, however small. Write the SDR years in closer language - opportunities created and their eventual ARR, not just meetings booked - because meetings booked is an activity number and ARR is a business one.

If your company gave you a handful of small deals to close, that is the single most important block on your resume. Name how many, the size, the cycle and the win rate. Two closed deals with real numbers beat a year of dials described in the abstract.

  • Opportunities created, the pipeline value they represented, and the ARR that eventually closed from them
  • Any deals you closed yourself, with size, cycle length and win rate
  • Attainment against your SDR quota, with ranking on the team
  • The stack you already run: Salesforce, Outreach or Salesloft, Gong, ZoomInfo
  • A named methodology you have been trained in and can apply in a role play

Mistakes

Common mistakes

Total revenue with no quota beside it

'Closed $2.4M' is unreadable on its own. Against a $1.8M quota it is excellent; against a $4M quota it is a performance conversation. Always pair the two.

Mixing new business with renewals

Hiring managers separate new ARR, expansion and renewal because they predict different things. A blended number invites the assumption that the new-business part was weak.

No deal size or cycle length

Without ACV and cycle, nobody can tell whether your motion fits their price point. An SMB rep at a $6K ACV and an enterprise AE at $250K look identical on a resume that omits both.

Claiming self-sourced pipeline you did not source

This gets tested in the interview and in references, usually with one specific question about your best self-generated deal. Write the real split.

Enterprise language on an SMB history

Writing 'complex enterprise sales' over a history of two-call closes reads as inflation. Describe what you actually ran, and let the numbers argue for the level.

Awards buried at the bottom

President's Club, ranking and stack-rank finishes are the fastest credibility you have. Below a skills section on page two, they might as well not be there.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

An account executive owns a full cycle into a buying committee and is measured in ARR or annual contract value, win rate and cycle length, usually with a named methodology and a SaaS stack behind it. A sales representative more often works a defined product line, price list and territory, and is measured on revenue against quota and coverage of accounts. The documents overlap, but an AE resume has to carry deal economics - ACV, win rate, multi-threading, procurement - or it reads as a rep resume applying up a level.
Give it as a short run of lines, one per year: fiscal year, quota, attainment percentage, ranking. Keep the format identical across employers so the eye can compare. If one year was short because you ramped mid-year, say 'quota prorated from May' rather than leaving a number that looks like a miss. Sales leaders are used to reading attainment tables and will trust a resume that presents one more than a paragraph that hides it.
Yes, because it is one of the few sales claims an employer can verify quickly. Name the award exactly as the company named it, give the year, and add the field size - 'President's Club 2025, top 8 of 61 AEs' - since clubs vary from the top 10% to nearly half the team. If your employer had no club, use whatever ranking existed: quarterly stack rank, regional top finisher, a rep-of-the-year award.
Pay is split into base and variable, and on-target earnings vary widely by segment, region and product category, so read live postings for your market rather than trusting a single number. The factors that move it are consistent: larger average contract value, enterprise and regulated buyers, a longer unbroken attainment record, genuine self-sourced pipeline, and a technical product that takes real domain fluency. Do not put compensation on the resume - it belongs in the recruiter call.
Show sourcing and show closing. Convert your SDR history into business outcomes - opportunities created, the pipeline value, and the ARR those opportunities eventually closed - rather than meetings booked, which is an activity metric. If you closed even a few small deals, give each one size, cycle and outcome. Add a named methodology you have actually been trained in, since the AE interview usually includes a discovery role play where it will show.
Only if your employer publishes them as references and the name means something to your reader. Otherwise describe the account by size and industry - 'a 4,000-employee healthcare system', 'a publicly traded logistics firm' - which conveys the same complexity without risking a confidentiality issue. Interviewers ask about the deal, not about the brand, and being careful with a former employer's customer list reads as a positive signal.
State it with the context in the same line: attainment, ranking, and what changed - a territory split, a product sunset, a leadership change, a segment that contracted. A single explained miss inside a strong record is normal and is easier to defend than a resume of four perfect years that references will not confirm. What hiring managers penalise is the absence of numbers, because it reads as concealment.
Yes - the sample above and every template on this page. You can build your own version in the builder for free and preview it; downloading the finished PDF is paid, by subscription or one-time payment. The templates keep a single-column, ATS-safe structure, which matters because SaaS companies screen high application volumes automatically before a sales leader ever reads a file.
