Graphic Designer Resume 2026 - Adobe suite, Figma and a portfolio link that opens free

A graphic designer is hired on the portfolio, not the resume. The art director opens your link first, and only if the work holds up does anyone read the page you spent a weekend formatting. So your resume has two jobs: put the link where it cannot be missed, and say in one line what kind of designer you are - social media, packaging and print, brand identity, or UI. In Bengaluru and Gurgaon the pull is toward digital and product design teams, Mumbai and Delhi still run on advertising agencies, Pune and Hyderabad sit in the middle with in-house marketing teams at IT and manufacturing companies. Below is a full sample with software, deliverables per month and results in numbers, plus the fresher route.

The structure below works for both hiring routes: an agency in Mumbai or Gurgaon running several brands at once, and an in-house marketing or product team in Bengaluru, Pune or Hyderabad that goes deep on one brand. Same skeleton, different emphasis at the top.

Portfolio link directly under your name

Behance, Dribbble, a personal site or even a clean Instagram grid. Test it in an incognito window - a Google Drive folder that asks for access counts as no link at all, and nobody emails you to request it.

Say what kind of designer you are

Social media creatives, packaging and print, brand identity, editorial, presentation design, UI. 'Graphic designer' covers all of them and describes none, and the first cut is made on exactly this.

Tools you can be questioned on

Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, CorelDRAW, After Effects. Four you actually own beat eight you have opened once - the interview usually includes someone pointing at a file and asking how you made it.

Volume and one result

Creatives per month, brands handled, campaigns owned end to end, print jobs released. Add one outcome the client cared about, and your resume stops reading like a syllabus.

Sample resume text

Use it as a reference: keep the structure and wording, put in your own facts and numbers.

Graphic designer profile summary

Three or four lines: years of experience, the kind of design you do, the tools you own, agency or in-house, the industries whose brands you have handled, and the portfolio link. This paragraph decides whether the link gets clicked, so nothing generic survives here.

A fresher writes the same paragraph from projects: the brand sets you built, the local client you actually worked with, the one self-initiated project you can defend choice by choice. Course names belong lower down; finished work belongs here.

WeakCreative and passionate graphic designer with knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Figma, Canva, After Effects, Premiere Pro and Blender. Looking for a challenging role in a reputed organisation where I can utilise my creative skills.
StrongGraphic Designer with 4 years in a digital agency, Bengaluru. Handled 9 brands across FMCG, real estate and edtech - about 120 social media creatives a month and 2 to 3 full campaign sets a quarter. Strong in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Figma; release my own press-ready files with CMYK, bleed and die-lines. Built a brand guideline that cut revision rounds by about 40%. Portfolio: behance.net/example. Notice period 30 days.
Tip
Keep the same portfolio link everywhere - resume, LinkedIn, Naukri, email signature - and curate it down to 8 to 12 projects with your best work first. Most people stop scrolling after three, and anything you would rather not do again should be removed, because that is precisely the work you will be offered.
Skills

Graphic designer skills for a resume

Hard skills are the tools and the production knowledge behind them. Soft skills are what decides whether an agency keeps you past the probation period: taking feedback, hitting the deadline, and explaining a design in words other than 'it looks nice'.

Hard skills

  • Adobe Photoshop: retouching, masking, compositing, smart objects, non-destructive layer work
  • Adobe Illustrator: vector artwork, logo and icon systems, pen tool control, print-safe paths
  • Adobe InDesign: brochures, catalogues, annual reports and multi-page layouts with master pages
  • Figma: social and web layouts, components, auto layout, shared files and developer handoff
  • CorelDRAW: still standard with many Indian print vendors and local clients
  • Canva: fast turnarounds and building templates that marketing teams can use without you
  • Print production: CMYK against RGB, bleed, trim marks, die-lines, GSM, resolution, press-ready PDFs
  • Typography and layout: font pairing, hierarchy, grids and spacing, including Devanagari and English together
  • Brand identity work: logo systems, colour palettes, brand guidelines and their enforcement
  • Basic motion for social: After Effects or Canva reels, covers, simple animated posts

Soft skills

  • Reading a brief properly - what the client said and what the client actually wants
  • Taking feedback without taking it personally, and turning revisions around calmly
  • Delivering on the deadline, which in an agency is the reputation that travels
  • Running several brands and several deadlines in the same week
  • Defending a design decision in plain words instead of 'it looks better this way'
  • Working with copywriters, marketing managers and print vendors without drama
  • File discipline: sensible naming, folder structure, source files that survive your exit
  • Learning new tools quickly, including AI tools now sitting inside the workflow
  • Proofreading before release - spelling, sizes and bleed checked one last time
  • Estimating honestly how long a job will take before you accept it
Experience

How to write graphic designer experience

Formula: company plus agency or in-house plus what you designed plus the volume plus one result. Not 'designed posters and social media posts', but how many brands, which industries, how many deliverables a month, and which campaign you owned end to end.

Agency work and in-house work read differently, so separate them clearly: agency means many brands and speed, in-house means one brand and depth. Do not hide freelance either - list it as its own entry with the number of clients and the kind of work, because agencies read freelance as trained client handling.

Weak- Designed social media posts, posters and banners as per client requirement using Photoshop and Illustrator.
Strong- Owned design for 9 brands across FMCG, real estate and edtech: about 120 social media creatives a month, plus 2 to 3 full campaign sets per quarter. Ran the Diwali campaign alone - 40 creatives, 6 hoardings and a packaging label in 11 days - and built the brand guideline that cut revision rounds by roughly 40%.
What to include
Company and city - agency or in-house - number of brands and their industries - deliverables per month - campaigns owned - print or digital - tools used - one measurable result.
Education

Education and certifications

The portfolio outweighs the degree here, but the degree still clears the HR filter on your first two jobs. BFA and B.Des are the classic routes; BCA, mass communication and multimedia diplomas land design jobs every day. Write the college, the university and the year of passing, with percentage or CGPA while you are still early in your career.

  • Degree or diploma with college, university and year of passing
  • Design institute course - Arena, MAAC, Frameboxx and similar - with duration
  • Adobe Certified Professional, if you have it
  • Online courses from Coursera, Udemy or Domestika, named with the project you finished
  • Portfolio link repeated here: Behance, Dribbble or your own site
  • Final year project or college fest design work, if it is in the portfolio
  • Design competitions or internal awards, with the year
Careful
A course name on its own is dead weight. Attach one finished project to every course you list and keep that project live in the portfolio, because interviewers never ask about the certificate and always ask about the work.
Freshers

Graphic designer resume for freshers

Design is one of the few entry-level markets in India where experience is genuinely optional, because the work speaks first. The problem is that most fresher portfolios are college assignments, and every reviewer in Bengaluru has seen the same poster series a hundred times.

Fix it with work that looks real. Pick a local brand - a cafe in Koramangala, a gym in Kothrud, a coaching institute in your neighbourhood - and build the whole set: logo, menu, signage, social posts, packaging. Label it a self-initiated project. Five of those beat fifty assignments.

  • Build the portfolio first, then the resume - an application without a link goes nowhere
  • 3 to 5 complete projects, each with the brief, your solution and the final output
  • Take one real client even unpaid: a local shop, an NGO, a college fest
  • Go deep in one area - social, packaging or print - instead of showing a bit of everything
  • Write your internship like a real job: brands handled, deliverables, tools, turnaround

Mistakes

Common mistakes

No portfolio link, or a link that does not open

This is the one unrecoverable mistake. A Drive folder that asks for access, a dead Behance URL or a private Instagram is the same as no portfolio, because nobody will write to you asking for permission.

Designing the resume instead of the portfolio

Three columns, gradients, icon rows and a background image break in an ATS and slow down the HR read. Keep the resume single column and plain; put the creativity where it is being judged.

A software list nobody believes

Eight tools in one line reads as familiarity with none. Name four you can be questioned on and say what you use each one for.

No volume, no result

Creatives per month, brands, campaigns, print jobs released. Without them four years of agency work reads exactly like six months, because there is nothing to scale it against.

Print work written without production detail

CMYK, bleed, die-line, GSM, press-ready PDF, vendor coordination. These words tell a packaging or retail employer that your files will not bounce back from the printer. 'Designed posters' hides all of it.

Aadhaar, PAN, photo and expected CTC on the CV

Aadhaar and PAN numbers never belong on a document you email to strangers - that is an identity theft risk, not a formality. Photo, marital status and father's name add nothing, and expected CTC belongs in the application form and the recruiter call, not the resume.

Takeaways

Takeaways

Remember

  • Portfolio link under your name, tested in an incognito window
  • Say which kind of designer you are in the first two lines
  • Four tools you can defend, not eight you have installed
  • Deliverables per month, brands handled, one measurable result
  • Resume plain and ATS safe, creativity in the portfolio
  • City, preferred city and notice period in the header - no Aadhaar, no PAN, no photo

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No. The portfolio decides, and plenty of working designers in Bengaluru and Pune came through BCA, mass communication, a multimedia diploma or no formal design training at all. A BFA or B.Des does clear the HR filter faster on your first two jobs, especially in larger companies with structured hiring. If your degree is unrelated, write it in one line and let the portfolio and finished projects carry the page.
Eight to twelve, curated hard. Each one should show the brief, your solution and the final output, with the strongest work first because most reviewers stop after three. Remove anything you would not want to repeat, since the work you show is the work you get offered. For agency applications, include at least one campaign set rather than only standalone pieces.
Agencies in Mumbai, Gurgaon and Bengaluru give you many brands, fast turnarounds and the steepest learning curve, along with the deadline pressure that comes with it. In-house teams at product, IT and manufacturing companies give you one brand, more predictable hours and a closer view of marketing and business decisions. Most people build a portfolio faster in an agency for the first two or three years, then move in-house.
Do not put a number on the resume - keep expected CTC for the application form and the recruiter call. To decide what to quote, read live postings on Naukri, LinkedIn, AmbitionBox and design-specific boards for your exact city, experience band and specialisation, because ranges move quickly and second-hand figures mislead. What raises the offer is consistent: a portfolio with real brands in it, a second skill such as motion or UI, print production knowledge if the employer manufactures anything, and the ability to think at brand level rather than per-creative. Keep your current CTC and notice period consistent everywhere, because both get verified.
Yes, one line in the header with current city, preferred city and notice period. Indian design teams hire against project starts and campaign calendars, and a 60 or 90 day notice changes which roles you fit. Hiding it only delays the conversation, because it comes out in the first recruiter call anyway.
Not if it is not the only tool. Canva is in daily use at a lot of Indian companies and building templates that non-designers can run without you is a real contribution. It reads badly only when the resume shows Canva and nothing else, with no evidence of Photoshop, Illustrator or Figma work. List it alongside the Adobe suite or Figma and it costs you nothing.
Lead with the print strength rather than apologising for it. Production knowledge - CMYK, bleed, die-lines, GSM, working directly with vendors - is genuinely scarce among younger designers and is in direct demand at packaging, retail and manufacturing companies in Pune, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Put print first, then whatever digital work you have done, and add one self-initiated social or Figma project so nobody assumes you cannot cross over.
Never. Aadhaar, PAN and bank account numbers do not belong on any resume, because the document gets forwarded to recruiters, agencies and shared inboxes you have no control over, and those numbers are used for fraud. Documents are shared later during onboarding through an official HR channel. One line saying documents are available on request is more than enough.
