A network engineer resume in India is read for three things: which certifications you hold and whether they are current, what you have actually configured with your own hands, and whether you can work rotational shifts. CCNA gets you screened in, CCNP gets you shortlisted, and a resume that says 'troubleshooting network issues' with no device names gets skipped. Large service companies in Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru hire in volume for managed services and NOC roles, product and enterprise IT teams in Gurgaon and Hyderabad want deeper routing, firewall and cloud networking skills. Below is a full sample with device counts, ticket volumes and uptime written the way the screening round expects.

What you get

  • A complete network engineer resume sample with devices, tickets and uptime
  • 3 PDF templates
  • How to write routing, switching and firewall work with numbers
  • 6 mistakes that cost shortlists in NOC and enterprise hiring

The structure below clears both screens: managed services and NOC roles at service companies, where shifts, ticket volume and SLA dominate, and enterprise or service provider roles, where routing depth, firewall policy and change management matter more. Same skeleton, different order at the top.

Certifications in the header

CCNA, CCNP Enterprise, the security or cloud certifications you hold, with the year and validity. Recruiters search Naukri on these exact strings, and an expired certification written as current is caught in the first call.

Name the hardware and the software

Cisco Catalyst and ISR, Juniper, Aruba, Fortinet FortiGate, Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, F5. Which models, which IOS or Junos versions, which management tools. This is the line that separates hands-on from shadowing.

Scale in numbers

Devices managed, sites supported, users behind them, tickets per shift, P1 incidents handled, uptime against SLA. Without scale, five years in a NOC reads the same as an internship.

Shift readiness stated plainly

NOC hiring runs on 24x7 rosters. Say you work rotational shifts, including nights, in the header. It removes a whole round of screening questions and it is the first thing a delivery manager checks.

Profile

Network engineer profile summary

Three or four lines: years of experience, enterprise or service provider, certifications, the protocols and platforms you work on daily, the scale you support, and your shift availability. The technical panel decides from this paragraph whether to put you on a subnetting and BGP question or a basic one.

A fresher writes the same paragraph from a home lab and a certification: what you built in Packet Tracer, EVE-NG or GNS3, which topologies you configured, and which parts of the CCNA blueprint you can talk through without notes. Write the lab like work, because it is the only evidence you have.

WeakHardworking network engineer with good knowledge of networking concepts, router and switch configuration and troubleshooting. CCNA certified. Looking for a challenging position in a reputed organisation to enhance my technical skills.
StrongNetwork Engineer with 4 years in managed services, Pune. CCNA (2022) and CCNP Enterprise ENCOR (2024). Supported 340+ Cisco Catalyst and ISR devices across 28 branch sites for a banking client: OSPF and BGP, VLANs and STP, site-to-site IPsec VPNs, FortiGate and Cisco ASA policy changes. Averaged 18 to 22 tickets a shift with 97% SLA adherence, and cut recurring branch link flaps by 60% after a root cause analysis on QoS misconfiguration. Rotational 24x7 shifts, notice period 60 days.
Tip
Write the protocols you configure, not the ones you have read about. 'OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF' in a line is easy to type and easy to break in the interview, where you will be asked to explain path selection or draw the topology you supported. List four you own and be ready to whiteboard them.
Skills

Network engineer skills for a resume

Hard skills are protocols, platforms and the tools you troubleshoot with. Soft skills here are unusually load-bearing, because half the job is handling a P1 bridge call at 3 am with a client manager on the line asking for an update every ten minutes.

Hard skills

  • Routing: OSPF, BGP, EIGRP and static routing, route redistribution and path selection
  • Switching: VLANs, trunking, STP and RSTP, EtherChannel, VTP, inter-VLAN routing
  • Cisco platforms: Catalyst switches, ISR and ASR routers, Nexus in data centre environments
  • Firewalls: Cisco ASA, FortiGate, Palo Alto - policy, NAT, rule review and change requests
  • VPN: site-to-site IPsec, remote access VPN, DMVPN and basic SD-WAN concepts
  • Wireless: Cisco WLC and Aruba controllers, access point deployment, RF troubleshooting
  • Network services and addressing: DHCP, DNS, NAT, subnetting and IP schema design, IPv6 basics
  • Monitoring and ticketing: SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, Wireshark, ServiceNow, Remedy
  • Change and incident process: ITIL-aligned change requests, RCA documents, MOP and rollback plans
  • Automation and cloud basics: Python or Ansible scripts for config pushes, AWS VPC or Azure VNet networking

Soft skills

  • Staying methodical on a P1 bridge call while several people ask for updates at once
  • Escalating at the right moment instead of holding an incident too long
  • Writing an RCA a client manager can read without a networking background
  • Documenting topologies and changes so the next shift is not guessing
  • Clean shift handover - open incidents, pending changes, what was tried already
  • Working rotational nights without letting quality slip in the last two hours
  • Explaining an outage to a non-technical stakeholder without jargon or blame
  • Saying no to an unplanned change on a production link, politely and with a reason
  • Coordinating with ISPs and vendors for link faults and RMA follow-ups
  • Keeping certifications current instead of letting them lapse quietly
Experience

How to write network engineer experience

Formula: environment plus what you configured or fixed plus the platform plus a number. Not 'handled network troubleshooting', but how many devices, across how many sites, on which vendor, with what ticket load and what SLA.

In a managed services role the client is often under NDA - name the industry and the scale instead. 'Banking client, 28 branch sites, 340+ devices' tells a hiring manager more than an internal account code. Separate L1 work from L2 and L3 work honestly, because the interview will land exactly on that boundary.

Weak- Handled network troubleshooting, router and switch configuration and coordinated with vendors for issue resolution.
Strong- Supported 340+ Cisco Catalyst and ISR devices across 28 branch sites for a banking client: OSPF and BGP changes, VLAN and STP fixes, and site-to-site IPsec VPN rebuilds. Averaged 18 to 22 tickets a shift at 97% SLA adherence, and cut recurring branch link flaps by 60% after an RCA traced them to a QoS misconfiguration on the WAN edge.
What to include
Environment and industry - number of devices, sites and users - vendors and platforms - protocols configured - tickets per shift and SLA - P1 incidents handled - shift pattern - tools used.
Education

Education and certifications

B.Tech, B.E, BCA, MCA and B.Sc IT all lead into networking, and the degree still clears the first filter at large service companies, some of which apply percentage cutoffs. Write the college, the university, the year of passing and your percentage or CGPA. After the degree, certifications do the real work on this resume.

  • Degree with college, university, year of passing and percentage or CGPA
  • CCNA with the year and validity - the baseline for almost every posting
  • CCNP Enterprise (ENCOR and ENARSI) or CCNP Security, with exam names
  • Vendor certifications: Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA or PCNSE, Juniper JNCIA, Aruba ACSA
  • Cloud networking: AWS Certified Advanced Networking or Azure AZ-700, if you have moved that way
  • ITIL Foundation, which most managed services employers list explicitly
  • Home lab or training platform work: EVE-NG, GNS3, Packet Tracer topologies you built yourself
Careful
Never write a lapsed certification as if it were current, and never write 'pursuing CCNP' as a qualification. Both are checked, the first is treated as dishonesty rather than an oversight, and the second uses a line that a real lab project or an RCA you wrote would use far better.
Freshers

Network engineer resume for freshers

Entry into networking in India runs through two doors: a NOC or L1 support role at a service company in Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru or Noida, and a desktop or infrastructure support role you convert into networking within a year or two. Both accept freshers, and both filter on CCNA plus evidence that you have touched a CLI.

That evidence is a lab. Build topologies in EVE-NG, GNS3 or Packet Tracer, configure OSPF and BGP, break them deliberately and document how you fixed them. Write those labs as project entries with the topology, the protocols and the failure you diagnosed. It is the closest thing to work experience a fresher can show.

  • Finish CCNA before applying - it is the single biggest filter at entry level
  • 3 to 4 documented lab topologies with the protocols configured and faults you diagnosed
  • State clearly that you are available for rotational 24x7 shifts, including nights
  • Any internship or campus IT support work, written with devices and ticket counts
  • Basic Linux and one scripting language, which increasingly separates fresher profiles

Mistakes

Common mistakes

Protocols listed with nothing behind them

'OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS, VRF, SD-WAN' in one line invites the exact question you cannot answer. List what you have configured and supported, and name the topology you did it on.

No scale anywhere

Devices, sites, users, tickets per shift, SLA percentage, P1 count. A resume without these reads as L1 work regardless of what the job title says, and the interviewer will assume the smaller number.

Hiding that the role was L1

Claiming L2 or L3 depth you do not have collapses in the first technical round. Write what you owned honestly and show the direction of travel - the shadowing you did, the escalations you started handling, the RCA you contributed to.

Certification status left vague

Year of passing and current validity, always. An expired CCNA written as current is verified easily and treated as a lie, not a slip, and it ends the process.

Shift availability missing

Managed services and NOC roles run 24x7 rosters. If the resume does not say you work rotational shifts, the recruiter has to ask, and often just moves to the next profile instead.

Aadhaar, PAN, photo and expected CTC on the CV

Aadhaar and PAN numbers must never appear on a resume that gets forwarded through recruiters and shared inboxes - that is an identity theft risk. A photo, marital status and father's name add nothing, and expected CTC belongs in the application form and the recruiter call.

Takeaways

Takeaways

Remember

  • CCNA and CCNP in the header with year and validity
  • Name the vendors and platforms, not just the protocols
  • Scale every bullet: devices, sites, tickets per shift, SLA
  • State rotational shift availability plainly
  • Be honest about L1 against L2 and L3 - the technical round finds out
  • City, preferred city and notice period in the header - no Aadhaar, no PAN, no photo

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

CCNA is enough to be shortlisted at entry level, particularly for NOC and L1 managed services roles at large service companies. It is not enough on its own, because thousands of freshers hold it - what converts is CCNA plus documented lab work you can be questioned on, plus willingness to work rotational shifts. From about three years of experience onward, CCNP Enterprise becomes the differentiator, and vendor certifications on firewalls or cloud networking start to matter more than another Cisco exam.
Service provider and telecom work goes deep on BGP, MPLS, VRFs and large-scale routing, with strict change windows and a narrower but deeper skill set. Enterprise and managed services work is broader: LAN, WLAN, firewalls, VPN, cloud networking and a lot more stakeholder contact. Enterprise breadth moves more easily into security and cloud roles later; provider depth is harder to acquire once you have skipped it. Early on, take whichever puts you on real production devices rather than only monitoring dashboards.
Say the roster plainly in the header - rotational 24x7 shifts including nights - and then quantify the work: tickets per shift, SLA adherence, P1 and P2 incidents handled, mean time to resolve if your team tracked it. Add what you did beyond ticket closure, such as an RCA, a monitoring threshold you tuned, or a runbook you wrote. That is what moves you from a shift resource to an engineer in the reader's mind.
Leave the number off the resume and keep expected CTC for the application form and the recruiter call. To decide the figure, check live postings on Naukri, LinkedIn and AmbitionBox for your exact city, experience band and certification level, because ranges shift and old figures mislead. What raises the package is fairly consistent: CCNP over CCNA, firewall and security depth, cloud networking, automation with Python or Ansible, product or enterprise roles over pure NOC monitoring, and a domain such as banking or telecom that the employer sells into. Keep your current CTC and notice period consistent everywhere, because both are verified at offer stage.
Yes, one line in the header: current location, preferred location, notice period. Indian infrastructure teams plan around joining dates and 90 day notices genuinely change which roles you fit, especially on client-funded projects with a start date. Hiding it wastes a week and it comes out in the first call anyway.
Do it in three steps and show all three on the resume. Finish CCNA, build and document a real lab, and start taking the network-side tickets in your current role - switch port issues, VLAN assignments, VPN client faults, wireless complaints. Then rewrite your experience so network work appears first and desktop work second. Internal moves within the same company are usually easier than an external jump, because your manager can vouch for the hands-on part a resume cannot prove.
Not to get hired at L1 or L2, but it is becoming the clearest way to stand out, especially at product companies and larger enterprises in Bengaluru and Gurgaon. You do not need to be a developer - a script that pushes configuration to fifty switches, parses logs or automates a compliance check is enough to write about. If you are learning, do not write 'basic Python'; write the one script you actually use and what it saved.
No. Aadhaar, PAN and bank account numbers never belong on a resume, because it is forwarded to recruiters, staffing agencies and shared mailboxes you have no control over, and those numbers are the ones used for identity fraud. Background verification happens later through an official HR process. A line saying documents are available on request covers it completely.
